Firewood Shed

Last week we hired a local contractor, with whom we've been working for nearly a year on various projects, to build a firewood shed. We have neither the skill, nor the know-how, nor the time... and we like supporting local businesses, especially family-owned businesses. So, I told the contractor, "I want a firewood shed that will hold 7-10 cords of wood," and he replied with "that's going to be big!" :-) Yup, it turned out big, 24' long (with room to expand at a later time, if needed) and 8' deep and is way taller than me at its shortest point. It's gonna hold a lot of wood. The contractor (Let's call him M__) designed the shed to allow for the slightly sloped terrain (of soggy clay at the moment) to allow for ventilation and keeping out the weather on three sides. It also provides us with a bit of privacy from the neighbor's house that can be seen in the background.

We're very pleased with our shed, and with Hubby almost better we hope to get "moving," (still moving, yes. I'm so ready to be done with it) and put firewood there. Currently, the firewood we have is wet from the severe moisture issue we're having out here (one of our lawns is now longer grass, but squishy and pretty light green moss. I don't mind moss in general, but it's purpose is in helping decomposition, therefore it being on our edibles is not favorable), and some of it is green/unseasoned, because it's from the "windfall" (which also caused some damage to the old fiberglass 'light' thingies from the 70's on the barn).

I still need to go take some "during" pictures of "The Hangout," as M___ is getting the old, rat-infested insulation ripped out (done) and putting up sheetrock and then doing GreenFiber(R) blow-in insulation. We're very excited about this major project, because it will give us a clean and safe place for... yup, "Hanging Out." It'll be nice for when we have friends and family visit, as it will be a pleasant place in which to provide for sleeping arrangements. Hubby in particular excited, because he'll finally have wall space to convert to "I Love Me" (aka, awards he's earned throughout the years); geodesic living doesn't really allow for much in the way of putting up wall decorations. Not really needed, because having all the windows and sliding doors really does allow for a constantly beautiful and ever-changing view of the outdoors.

This weekend I'm trying to rest up, as I did help a very little bit with bundling the insulation (which wasn't good for my asthma), and the whole scuzz of rat grossness is still sickening me in thought. Otherwise, we're still keeping busy with our 'normal' life of homeschooling and trying to manage budgets and plan for the terrestrial changes we'll need to make this spring, and planning on how to get the "old house" ready for renters (and that financial implication) and all sorts of other uninteresting bits of living.

Remember to take the time to rest and enjoy life and to remember what is important.
